& &&&编导王晶以“人物前传&的方式再创新犹，用黎明演出高进的年轻时代，并以陈小春演出龙五，同时一举解释了高进的失忆症和好吃巧克力糖等第一集即已出现的谜团，成功地完成了《赌神》的三部曲。《赌神》一片出现时，曾以片中多彩多样的赌术令观众看得目瞠口呆，但是本片在多年后推出，各式各样的赌术已在银幕上泛滥成灾，观众亦见怪不怪。因此，王晶在这部新作中改以人物关系作为其刻划重点。从七姑娘（袁咏仪饰）从小对高进的爱慕、师兄高傲（吴镇宇饰）对高进的妒忌、以至龙五与高进之间的识英雄重英雄等，都描述得生动而有层次，使本片的前半部显得相当青春焕发，也兼具幽默趣味。可惜高进的师妹（梁咏琪饰）塑造得过份虚假，像一个被编导拉线操纵的木偶，以致她在被迫嫁给高傲之后还能狠心出卖高进变得毫无说服力，使压轴高潮的剧力也因而打了折扣。

　　以赌成名的星哥居然由现代香港赌到30年代上海滩，也难怪他在初进上海滩不久说出一句对白：“这次真算是代表作了”。费了那么大力气，还借了十年前的经典剧集，星哥看来是要强力打造自己的“金牌代表作”。
　　这部时代穿插的电影，也算是星哥希望把自己的喜剧风格跨越时代限制的尝试之作。其广受欢迎的结果打消了星哥的疑虑，开拓了自己影片的题材范围。
　　星哥杀回一个甲子之前，以现代意识面对陌生环境的构思，不能不说受到几年前美国《回到未来》的启发。但影片的表现手段，却绝对是周星驰自己的，他独具一格的“无厘头”风格，本来就是和普通社会不相融洽的，即使时代变换，也无关影片大体，反而更能得到凸显。
　　影片中吴孟达、吴君如的表现一般，倒是“龙五”、“川岛芳子”的表演各具特色，至于巩俐，仅仅用呆板、木讷等词实在不足以形容她的失败。
