　　于成龙是中国最后一个王朝--清朝康熙年间的一个清廉的官员。
　　顺治十八年他从前朝的一个贡生被任命为广西罗城的知县，这里是民族杂居的山区，械斗频繁，匪盗成灾。他费尽心机，捉拿盗匪，调解矛盾，不到一年，风气大变。七年里，百姓称他是"衣食父母"。吴三桂叛军占据湖南，他单骑直入贼巢，以大智大勇和威望缉捕盗贼，招抚反叛，破贼十万。 升任福建按察使后，他平反了因郑成功抗清被株连的几千人冤案，救助几百孤儿。自己则甘于淡泊，拒收馈赠，被福建巡抚吴兴祚举为"闽省廉能第一"。 于成龙又任直隶巡抚。他严禁州县增收火耗、勒索民众、馈赠上官。大灾之年，提前开仓放粮，如实上报灾情......康熙皇帝称赞："你是我朝清官第一，做到这一步着实不易"。65岁时，于成龙受命为两江总督。他赴任时，只带一名随从，坐一辆驴车，自找旅馆，不住新的府第，不吃宴请，并严整吏治，割除积弊，社会风气为之一变。这些，也使于成龙遭到参劾，流言蜚语使他蒙受沉重的压力。1684年，于成龙殁于任上。他身后的遗物只有官袍一身，靴一双，换洗的内衣一套，瓮里有粗米数斤，几小罐食盐和调料，几十册书籍。

　　Yu Chenglong was an honest and upright official of the Kangxi Era in Qing Dynasty,the last feudal dynasty in the Chinese history. He was a Gongsheng (a kind of reserve official) of Ming Dynasty. He was appointed the magistrate of Luocheng County, Guangxi Province at the 18th year of Shunzhi Era of Qing Dynasty. Luocheng County was a mountainous area inhabited by several nationalities. The fights with weapons between different groups often happened here, and there were also many bandits and thieves. He made great efforts to arrest the bandits and thieves, or to eliminate the contradictions between different groups by way of mediation. Therefore a year later, the social tendencies here had become much better. He was called the "parents to supply clothes and food" by the local people as he worked here in the following 7 years.When the rebellion troops occupied Hunan Province, he rode a horse and entered their nest without suites. He, with his wisdom and prestige, arrested the bandits and thieves, and also made 100,000 rebels surrender to the Royal Government. After he was promoted a higher-ranking official of Fujian Province, he redressed several thousands of mishandled cases that were made due to the case that Zheng Chenggong, the general of the past Ming Dynasty resisted the Qing army. He also helped several hundreds of orphans. However, he did not seek fame and wealth, and refused all the presents. So he was praised by Governor Wu Xingzuo of Fujian Province to be "the No. 1 honest, upright and competent official of Fujian Province". When he was the Governor of Zhili Province, he strictly forbade the governments of the prefectures or the counties from increasing the tax, extorting money from the local people and presenting the higher-ranking officials. When this province was stricken by big disasters, he opened the storehouses and distributed the grains to the victims ahead of the schedule, and made accurate report about the disasters to the Royal Government. Yu Chenglong was promoted the Governor-general of Jiangsu Province and Jiangxi Province when he was 65 years old. When he was on the way to his new position, he only asked one suite to accompany him, traveled by a donkey cart, and looked for the hotels himself. He did not live in the new mansion houses, and accepted no invitations for dinners. Since he strictly rectified the political tendencies and removed all the age-old malpractices, the local social tendencies changed a lot.
　　Due to what he had done, many people whose behalf was hurt spoke ill of him before the emperor. He bore great pressures because of the rumors and slanders. Yu Chenglong died in his office in 1684. He only left an official robe, a pair of boots, a set of underwear in case of cleaning the other underwear, several kilograms of rice, a few jugs of salt and flavoring and dozens of books.20 years later, when the Emperor Kangxi went for tour in the South China, he praised him to be "the No. 1 honest and upright official in the whole country".
