Nuclear Morphometry of Astrocytoma by Micro-Image Analysis System

Morphometric image analysis of nuclear features was performed on tissues from 40 cases of astrocytomas which were subdivided into four grades. Eight morphologic parameters of tumor cell nuclei, such as Area, Perimeter,Dmax . Dmin, Feret X, Feret Y,Cirsf, and Dcircl, were objectively measured and analysed by Micro -Image Analysis System (MIAS). The morphometric data recorded were statistically checked,depending on the tumor grade. The means of Area,Perimeter,Dcircl, Feret X, Feret Y, Dmx,and Dndn were found to grow with significance along with increasing tumor grade up from I to IV. The relative standard deviation(SD) of them were also high -accuracy parameters for the pathologists to describe variability of size and polymophism of nuclei. These parameters show a significant increase of values in parallel with rising tumorgrade. The collclusions were as follows: (1)The use of nuclear grade as prognostic indicator for astrocytoma could provide Such a simple and reproducible method of tumor grading. (2)May objectively evaluate the nuclear characteristics through MIAS,so it could help to diagnose and to predict the prognosis. (3)MIAS is a very useful tool for pathologists to sett1e the problems of tumor grading,which works fast,reliable and reproducible.
